Board of Directors update

The Board of Directors of Canada Pacific Health Care Society, which operates under the well-known name of BC Health Care Matters, is pleased to share the latest news about our President, Camille Currie.

When Camille was approached recently by the Green Party of BC to run as an MLA candidate for the vacant Langford-Juan de Fuca constituency seat in the upcoming by-election, we were very proud that our work as a grassroots movement had resonated in the BC Legislative Assembly.  We are now especially proud that Camille’s leadership, humanity, experience and business acumen is presently valued as much by the Green Party as they have been by BC Health Care Matters and its membership.  The possibility of losing Camille saddened us, but it came as no surprise that Camile was asked to become a voice in the legislature.  After all, it is her voice that resonated across the airwaves and on legislature lawns for the past year and a half, demanding access to family doctors. Through her, BC Health Care Matters got results!

As Camille and the Board await the date for this by-election, work at BC Health Care Matters continues.  The Board is unanimous in its support of Camille and it recognizes that the demands on her will increase when the electoral campaign begins.  A transition plan is now in place which will see Camille remain as President of both Canada Pacific Health Care Society and BC Health Care Matters until the results of the by-election.  Camille will continue to champion the mandate and activities of BC Health Care Matters; she will continue to coach and train new directors; she will remain the voice and the face of BC Health Care Matters with the understanding that the directors will take on a more public role.  If elected, we will all cheer her on, we will accept her resignation, and the Board will appoint a new President at that time.

BC Health Care Matters was created by Camille Currie in January 2022, and thanks to her leadership and tenacity, it grew deep roots, like the province’s majestic Douglas firs, and will continue to grow and spread its message. As MLA for Langford-Juan de Fuca, Camille will continue to advocate for access to family doctors, transparency in health care, and free universal health care in BC.

We invite you to join us in wishing Camille every success in her bid to be a strong voice in the BC Legislature.

Sharman Minus, Vice-President, Director
