Where is all the money really going?

64 Vice Presidents across 5 Health Authorities (HA) and one Provincial HA

We often hear: "there's no money! to pay doctors" or "the only option to properly compensate FPs are user fees". We aren't convinced by any of this. The truth is, there is money, but it's not managed properly.

One such example can be observed when we look at the top heavy BC Health System. British Columbia currently has 5 health authorities plus 1 Provincial Health Service Authority and a total of 64 VPs and 6 Presidents. In comparison, Alberta only has 1 health authority and 7 VPs and 1 President for the entire province. Sources suggest those 7 VPs are estimated to be paid $4.6 million in total per year. We can only wonder what the 64 VPs are costing the province of B.C in total. Only some salaries were found to be on the BC Disclosure statements.

There are countless examples on how mismanagement of funds are occurring in our Health Care system and we can’t help but ask – if better choices were made could we not afford the system we all deserve?

Based on publicly available data, out of the 28 of 64 Vice Presidents and 6 Presidents for BC's 6 Health Authorities, the average salary for an executive is $396,773/yr in 2022. Noting that 36 VP salaries are undisclosed on the compensation disclosure statements.
